One account for the web and the desktop app: the same email and password everywhere.

One account, everywhere

Account
Your email address and a password, or Google or Apple where offered. Used on the web and in the desktop app (and by the phone app later). It owns your subscription, your chats and your scheduled tasks. Projects are the one thing it does not hold yet: a project stays in the browser you made it in.
The desktop app
Logs in with the same account, the same email and password as the website. Each computer you log in on counts as one of your computers; the subscription works on all of them.

On the web

Two steps: your email first, then your password. Signing up is the same two steps with a new password of at least 8 characters, and then a third: we email a six-digit code that confirms the address. Type it in and you are signed in; nothing to open, no second tab. That code is valid for ten minutes and for five tries, and it works once. With two-step verification on (Settings › Security), a login from a new browser has a third step of its own: another six-digit code by email, on the same terms. A browser you verified stays trusted for 30 days. Continue with Google works too, and an account made that way has no password at all: to add one, sign in with Google, open Settings › Security and press Email me a code. We send a six-digit code to your address; type it in with the password you want and it is set. Apple is on the way.

Forgot your password? Press Forgot password under the password field. We email a link that is valid for an hour; it opens a page where you choose a new one. An account that signs in with Google has no password to reset, so that page cannot set one: use Settings › Security instead.

You stay signed in for a month on that browser, longer if you keep using it. Log out from the sidebar's account row. Sign in on a second browser or phone and your chats are there, the same ones: they are saved to your account, not to the browser.

In the desktop app

Enter your email and password on the first screen and press Log in. The app checks them with our servers and keeps a signed session so it starts even when you are briefly offline; it checks in again from time to time. Settings, Account, shows the email you are logged in with, when it was last verified, and Log out on this computer.

When sign-in fails

  • A code does not arrive, at sign-up or at login: check spam, then Send a new code. It comes from [email protected].
  • Wrong code five times: the code is thrown away; request a new one.
  • You never confirmed a sign-up: log in with the same email and password. That puts you back on the code screen with a fresh code.
  • The desktop app will not log in: use the same email and password as on the website, and see Troubleshooting.
