No folder can be granted today. This page is how file access works, kept for the day the Windows app is back: which folders it may work in, and what it does there.
- Granted folder
- A folder you allowed the app to work in, with everything inside it. Until you grant one, the app has no file access at all; an empty list means no, never everything.
Granting a folder
The first time a task needs a folder, the desktop app asks whether it may work there. Say yes and the folder is granted for good, until you remove it. Settings, Tools, lists the granted folders; add or remove them there any time. Your whole drive is a folder too, if you want that.
What it does
- Reads, creates, renames, moves and edits files
- Lists and searches folders (by name, by what is inside)
- Organises folders (by type, by date, by what is inside)
- Reads documents, spreadsheets and code to answer questions about them
What it asks first
Deleting, overwriting, and moving things out of a granted folder are asked about before they happen. See Approvals and safety.
What leaves your computer
Only what the task needs: the contents of the files it reads for that task go to the AI model to work on and are not used for training. Nothing is uploaded ahead of time, and nothing outside a granted folder is read.
